Fireworks & The Election

OK! I am ready for this. Bring it!

I’ve sufficiently nested. Meaning — I bought all new PJ sets (button-front being the key), a bunch of button up shirts, some new jeans (what? I realize new jeans aren’t necessary — but I played the cancer card in my head at check out!), re-arranged my closet to make room for all this new gear, procured a new quilt for the bed, new pillows to prop me up, a bedroom TV etc etc.

Yes, I know, many of you out there are probably thinking, jeez, she is really taking advantage of the shopping angle here. And hells.to.the.yes. I am!  You see, I am the type of person that has to make a giant list and I will not rest or relax until it is complete. I am thrilled to announce that the cancer prep list is officially complete! Phew. Now I can sit back and focus on getting better! yay!

As I am prone to do in my posts — here is today’s aside: I was driving home on the 101 earlier today and Katy Perry’s song Firework came on. I have to tell you — post diagnosis — this teenybop anthem has taken on a whole new meaning for me. I’m going to remind myself of this song whenever I start to feel down about infertility or cancer — because there really is just no point to being negative about any of this.  Negativity won’t make me better, or give me a kid — so I might as well choose to view the cup as half full.

In other words, I think I’ve begun to come to terms with what’s happening — and the only choice I really have is to move forward, and make the best of this. What’s that saying? When one door closes — another opens. Make lemonade out of lemons? Egh, hopefully I got one of those right! I’m always mixing up my metaphors! I blame my parents for that! Oh those ESL’ers! lol. jk jk jk But sort of true! I mean, how many of my friends out there still call it “JC-Crew” because of my mom? (She used to get confused between JCPenny and JCrew) Right, see where I get it from?!!

Here are some of the lyrics to Firework:

Do you ever feel so paper thin? Like a house of cards, one blow from caving in? Do you ever feel already buried deep? Six feet under screams but no one seems to hear a thing. Do you know that there’s still a chance for you because there’s a spark in you. You just gotta ignite the light and let it shine…. [Chorus — we all know this part so I’m not going to bother to type it!] Maybe your reason why all the doors are closed, so you could open one that leads you to the perfect road. Like a lightning bolt, your heart will blow. And when it’s time you’ll know. [Chorus].

Hope everyone out there voted today. It’s your civic duty. Can’t wait to see who wins!
